2016 - National Park Service Centennial

On August 25, 2016, the National Park Service turns 100! The National Park Service will be celebrating with the goal to connect with and create the next generation of park visitors, supporters, and advocates. Join us for festivities in Moab at the Moab Information Center, in Arches for the Centennial Film Series, and for night sky and other events at all of the SE Utah Parks. Look Where We Live - Youth Plein Air Art Show - MARC

Saturday, October 10, 2015, 6:00 - 9:00 p.m.

Join the Friends of Arches and Canyonlands Parks and the National Park Service at the 'Look Where We Live" art exhibit and reception this Saturday October 10th from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at the Moab Arts and Recreation Center in Moab Utah. This a wonderful program where local school children are brought into the parks and are taught concepts such as shapes, perspective, colors and other subjects in the required curriculum, but get to be outside and in the parks to learn and apply the concepts directly. This program also gives the children the opportunity to get out there and enjoy the National Parks of Southeast Utah.

Grand View of the Milky Way - Canyonlands National Park

Canyonlands National Park was designated an International Dark Sky Park in July of 2015.  To celebrate this important milestone join us at Island in the Sky in Canyonlands National Park, Grand View Point for a Star Party with Seth Jarvis, Director of the Clark's Planetarium and the Salt Lake Astronomical Society. Telescopes provided for your star gazing delight!

Voices of Canyonlands - Moab Information Center

 Thursday Night Lecture Series at the Moab Information Center - with Bruce Hucko -Voices of Canyonlands: Past, Present, Future -Would you like to hear the story behind the establishment of Canyonlands National Park? Moab resident photographer, radio producer & art coach Bruce Hucko created 4 radio programs about Canyonlands in cooperation the Friends of Arches & Canyonlands Park & the Utah Humanities Council. This AURAL presentation features the children of Bates Wilson & Bates Wilson himself (known as the Father of Canyonlands), as well as Karl Tangren, Ray Tibbetts, Heidi Redd, & other community members who experienced the area before, during & after the creation of Canyonlands National Park. No pictures so bring your listening ears!

Naturalization Ceremony - Arches National Park

Tuesday May 5, 2015, 9:00 a.m.

They've waited years to hear these words, "raise your right hand for the oath of citizenship." And now, for some, they speak the oath in America's most special places - its national parks. On Tuesday May 5th the newest citizens will be sworn in at Arches National Park.

Arches National Park Quarter Launch

Friday, June 6 2014, 9:00 - 11:00 a.m.
The Unites States Mint will commemorate the release of the 23rd coin in the "America the Beautiful Quarters Program" at the Arches National Park Visitor Center in Moab. Event begins at 9:00 a.m. Shuttle service begins at 7:15 a.m. from Helen M. Knight Elementary School. Visitor Center parking is extremely limited. Shuttle and carpooling are highly recommended.

At 5:30 p.m. Ranger Gordon Gower will talk about protecting the night sky and offer star viewing using a strong astronomical telescope.

On September 11th, 12th, and 13th in Moab and in the Needles, people who love Canyonlands and our Southeast Utah National Parks came from all over the country to participate.
