SAR, Search & Rescue Team•

Every year, millions of visitors come to experience the awe-inspiring landscapes of Arches National Park, but behind every safe adventure stands a dedicated Search & Rescue (SAR) team ready to respond when things don’t go as planned.

Our newest video highlights the extraordinary commitment of these rangers and highly trained volunteers who work tirelessly to protect visitors in some of the most challenging terrain in the Southwest. From complex technical rescues to emergency medical support, their work ensures that Arches remains a place of wonder, exploration, and safe recreation.

The Search & Rescue team’s responsibilities extend far beyond the dramatic missions you often see on film. They educate hikers on responsible recreation, assist lost or injured visitors, and help prevent accidents through proactive outreach. Their work requires deep knowledge of desert conditions, rock formations, rapidly changing weather, and the unique risks that come with exploring rugged red rock country. This video offers a rare, behind-the-scenes look at the people who dedicate their time, skills, and heart to keeping the park community safe.

As an official park partner, Friends of Arches and Canyonlands Parks is proud to support essential programs like Search & Rescue. When you watch this video, you’re not only getting a glimpse into the heroic work happening every day, you’re also witnessing the impact of community support. If you’re inspired by what you see, we invite you to help strengthen this critical work.
