Why National Parks Need Volunteers

Arches and Canyonlands National Parks are home to some of the world’s most stunning and unique landscapes. Yet, these natural wonders are constantly threatened by erosion, invasive species, and the impact of increased tourism.

While the National Park Service tirelessly works to manage and protect these parks, it often faces budget constraints and staff shortages. Volunteers provide essential support, helping to bridge the gap and preserve the beauty and integrity of these parks for future generations. FOACP provides direct funding for the Volunteers-In-Parks program, allowing our national parks to support volunteers with training and tools.

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers at Arches and Canyonlands help educate park visitors about the importance of conservation and inspire others to become stewards of these lands. A variety of volunteer opportunities are available to suit different abilities, skill levels, and time commitments.

Service Saturdays

Show your love for Arches National Park and its surrounding community by helping with a simple volunteer project. Participants may collect litter at a popular trailhead and parking lot, pull invasive weeds, or do a similar project. We provide all necessary equipment and warmly welcome participants of all ages and skill levels.

Service events occur on the fourth Saturday of each month from spring to fall. For more details, click here.

Trail Stewardship and Maintenance

Volunteers are assigned specific trails to monitor to identify hazards, ensure trails are properly marked, and interact with visitors. Participating in trail maintenance may also involve identifying and removing invasive plants to protect fragile ecosystems.

Administrative Services

Socialize with your fellow Moab volunteers as part of the sticker/staple club. Weekly gatherings might include stapling permit regulations or adding color-coded stickers to maps.
